The art of Level Design is to know when a level is most fun without sacrificing the core values of the game. For the player to be fully immersed into the gameworld, we have to envoke the right emotions at the right time.
A Great Environment tells a story by Mise en Scène, it's lighting, form and shapes and the overall structure of the level. It's very important to clearly communicate what is needed to make your level stand out.
Being in time is good, but making more time available is better. There is always a possibility to make workflows easier and faster for everyone.
In the conception of Level Art, it's very important to focus on believability rather than blindly copying reality. A Level Artist should always focus to improve gameplay rather than just making everything beautiful. Procedurality and automation is a Level Artist's best friend as long as it is used as a tool and you can change aspects along the way. It's hard to imagine graphics getting any better but it's our job to keep pushing the limits as much as we can.
Nobody can make something look beautiful in a bad lit environment! It's important to ensure a basic lightsetup is already integrated into the level blockout. It is necessary to always test textures in the right lighting conditions to ensure the best quality render.
